Karl George Licht Sr., 62, of 11734 Meadowlark Avenue in Hagerstown, Md., died Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at Washington County Hospital.

Born June 26, 1946, in Sandusky, Ohio, he was the son of the late George Karl Licht and Hedwig Pfrommer Licht.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

He was employed by Allegany Optical, and previously had been employed as manager of the Washington County Teachers Federal Credit Union.


He was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church in Hagerstown.

He was past president of the Hagerstown Lions Club, past-president of the American Cancer Society, and a member of Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.

He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Stoudt Licht; two sons, Karl G. Licht Jr. and his wife, Erin E. (Johnston) Licht, of Hagerstown, and the Rev. Robert Wayne Licht of Littleton, N.C.; and one sister, Linda Benchoff of Waynesboro, Pa.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 129 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Richard H. Jewell will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, and Saturday one hour prior to services.
