The National Park Service, C&O Canal National Historical Park, has issued a public notice that parcels of land intended for agricultural use are available for rent in Washington County with leases available for use though Dec. 31.
The first parcel available includes about 17 acres off Canal Road, three-fourths of a mile east of the Rumsey Bridge across from Shepherdstown, W.Va., according to a park service press release. The parcel can be used for hay or row crops.
The second parcel is about 52 acres off Canal Road, adjacent to Antietam Creek. It can be used for hay or row crops, according to the release.
Preserving the historic landscape of the C&O Canal is a vital part of the park's mission, the release says. In an effort to preserve the agricultural component of the scene, the park manages lands through an agricultural use program.
