Pastoral visitation program graduates two

March 25, 2009

The first graduates of the Western Maryland Hospital Center's new clinical pastoral visitation training program are the Rev. Joe Tweed, pastor of Battlefield Bible Church in Williamsport, and Gary Fulmer, a deacon at St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church.

The March 23 ceremony was held in the chapel.

Clinical pastoral visitation training is an opportunity open to all faiths for clergy to increase their ministry trained in doing effective hospital, nursing home and institutional visitation.

It is a form of applied theological education that takes place both in the academic classroom and in the clinical setting where ministry is conducted.

The program includes 50 hours of clinical experience, lectures, seminars and reflective writing, with individual and group supervision.

Classes are held throughout the year, with the next series beginning April 6. All persons interested in attending, or who desire further information on the free training program, can contact the office of pastoral care, Western Maryland Hospital Center, at 301-745-4285 or e-mail rbower@dhmh.state.md.us.
