W.Va. 9 closed for a time after truck overturns

March 24, 2009

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Rescue crews worked for about two hours Tuesday morning at an accident scene after a tractor-trailer overturned on its side and spilled coal at the intersection of Charles Town Road and Van Clevesville Road, West Virginia State Police said.

Albert Jones, who was driving a Chevrolet Prizm, failed to yield the right-of-way to the tractor-trailer driver while making a left turn onto Charles Town Road, state police said in a news release.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, John Wayne Rinker Jr., attempted to avoid the crash by swerving, state police said.

Jones was cited for failure to yield at an intersection following the 8:33 a.m. crash, police said.

There were no major injuries, police said.
