Cinderella's Closet to benefit animal shelter

The Student Government Association at Washington County Technical High School will hold a Cinderella's Closet fundraiser Friday to benefit the Humane Society of Washington County.

It will be at the school from 3 to 6 p.m.

Gently used formal gowns will be sold at reduced prices. Donations are still needed with an emphasis on plus sizes. If you have gently worn gowns that you would like to donate, drop them off at the school on West Oak Ridge Drive by Thursday.

The Funkstown Volunteer Fire Co. will hold its first barbecue of the season Saturday. The menu features barbecue chicken, pit beef, ham and Italian sausage sandwiches. The sale is from 9:30 a.m. until sold out.

Card party

The Women's Club will hold a card party to benefit Holly Place on April 22 at noon. The event will include lunch and card or board games. Tickets cost $12. For reservations, call 301-739-0870.

Cat food collection

A cat and kitten food collection will be held Thursday at Long Meadow Shopping Center from noon to 6 p.m.

The collection will take place at the Humane Society of Washington County's adoption site, two doors down from Pennsylvania Dutch Market.

Deb Hunt of Longmeadow Shopping Center suggested the drive be held to help the shelter, which anticipates an influx of cats this spring.

The Humane Society holds an adoption event at the shopping center on Thursdays.

Donations of Purina Cat Chow in the blue bags and Purina Kitten Chow are preferred. However, all types of food for dogs and cats will be accepted.
