Ravens Nest

Tri-State Ravens Nest No. 12 will award three $1,000 football scholarships as well as a "True Grit" scholarship in June.

Applications for these scholarships may be obtained from the guidance counselors in each of the high schools in Washington County, Franklin County, Pa., and Berkeley County, W.Va. The applicant must have been accepted or will be attending an accredited university or junior college. Deadline for submitting applications is March 31. Carnival planned

Smithsburg Elementary School PTA will hold its annual spring carnival Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. The PTA needs volunteers for food and ticket sales, and games. For more information, call 301-766-8329.

Basket bingo

Hagerstown Day Nursery is holding a basket/ Pampered Chef bingo Sunday at the BPO Elks Lodge on Robinwood Drive. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., lunch will be served at 12:15 p.m. and bingo starts at 1 p.m. The event will include raffles, door prizes, tip jars and King Tuts. The nursery is a nonprofit child-development center for those ages 2 to 5. Advance tickets cost $25 for 25 games and a hot lunch. Tickets cost $30 at the door. Chewsville Lions

The Chewsville Lions Club will meet with Boy Scout Troop 62 Monday at 6:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be Lion Bob Miller, who will talk about the Lions and how they work to help those with sight problems. The troop is sponsored by the Lions Club.

The Lions Club is still taking orders for its Joe Corbi's fundraiser. To order items, call Lion Warren at 301-739-3298. Delivery is expected in mid- or late April.

Memory album

Stephanie Hannah will celebrate her birthday this summer. She taught at Old Forge Elementary School for many years. She still works for the board.

Her niece, Melissa Slifer, is putting together a scrapbook for her birthday. Slifer is asking those who were her students, parents of former students and other teachers to drop her a note with any memories to share.

Hannah's birthday is not until August, but Slifer needs the information by July 4 to include it in the memory album.

Smithsburg Middle

The Smithsburg Middle School physical education department recently completed its annual 3-on-3 charity basketball tournament, which raised $360.75.

The tournament was a double-elimination format, including teams from sixth, seventh and eighth grades.

The money raised was donated to the Smithsburg Veterans Park Fund.

Cascade Elementary

Today, the students are still doing MSA math testing.

Thursday - Grade three will go to Fairview Outdoor School for a visit.

Smithsburg High School

Friday - Freshmen dance.
