FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Ida E. Naugle Carbaugh Smith, 91, of 5352 Spruce Road, died Saturday, March 21, 2009, at The Village of Laurel Run, where she was a guest since Feb. 7.

Born Feb. 15, 1918, in South Mountain, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Grover C. Naugle and Nettie Elizabeth Cauffman Kauffman Naugle.

Her husband, Lincoln E. Carbaugh, died March 8, 1975. They were married Sept. 5, 1946.

She attended New Baltimore School in South Mountain.

She was employed as a cook in the dietary department at South Mountain Restoration Center for more than 27 years, retiring in 1977.


She was a member of South Mountain Bible Church. She also was a member of South Mountain Volunteer Fire Co. and Former Ladies Auxiliary, both of South Mountain, and of the National AARP.

She is survived by her husband of 10 years, Irvin T. Smith, a resident of The Village of Laurel Run; two sons, Lane E. Carbaugh of Fayetteville and Donald E. Carbaugh of South Mountain; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was the last of her immediate family.

She was preceded in death by one son, Dale C. Huff; one sister, Minnie Wagaman; one brother, Bernard Naugle; and several younger brothers and sisters.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at South Mountain Bible Church, Fayetteville. Pastor David L. Keener will officiate. Burial will follow in Strang's Cemetery, South Mountain.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Arrangements are by Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro, Pa.
