MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - C. Banks Collis, 84, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, March 21, 2009, at home while under the care of Hospice.

Born March 30, 1924, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Charles E. Collis and Mary Collis Collis.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel Miller Collis.

He retired from Chemical-Lehman Tank Line.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was a member of Beth Haven Baptist Church in Vanclevesville, W.Va.

He was a member of the VFW and Tomahawk Ruritan.

He is survived by his wife, Esther Knipple Collis; four daughters, Connie Pingley of Arbovale, W.Va., Mary Ann Fanning of Maryville, Tenn., Patsy McGurer of Sweetwater, Tenn., and Nancy Williams-Haines of Falling Waters, W.Va.; two sons, Charles Collis of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Nelson Collis of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; one stepson, Paul E. Ridenour Sr. of Martinsburg; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.


Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. Pastor Bob Maraugha will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
