Kitchen fire damages Smithsburg home

SMITHSBURG - A kitchen fire Sunday morning displaced a Smithsburg family, according to a Washington County emergency dispatcher.

The fire at 2 W. Douglas Court was dispatched at 7:57 a.m.

The home is owned by William Williams, according to Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation records.

No other information was available Sunday night.

One person injured in W.Va. forklift accident

GLENGARY, W.Va. - Someone was flown to a hospital Saturday after a forklift accident on Apple Harvest Drive, according to a Berkeley County emergency dispatcher.

The accident happened in the 1000 block of Apple Harvest Drive, in the southwest section of the county, near Glengary, the dispatcher said.


At about 11 p.m., a helicopter arrived to fly the person to a hospital, the dispatcher said.

No other details were available Sunday night.

The Washington County Sheriff's Department responded recently to the following incidents:

Saturday, March 21:

o At 12:09 a.m., a shoplifter was reported at Sheetz, 17550 Virginia Ave. Someone took cigarettes.

o At 12:37 p.m., theft was reported in the 15800 block of Clear Spring Road. Two dirt bikes were taken.

o At 4:06 p.m., damage to a motor vehicle was reported in the 11100 block of Shadybrook Court. Someone slashed tires.

o At 6:42 p.m., trespassing was reported in the 100 block of Hump Road.

o At 7:20 p.m., theft was reported in the 11900 block of Labrador Lane. Someone took a cordless drill.

o At 8:30 p.m., breaking and entering and theft were reported in the 17500 block of Virginia Avenue.

Sunday, March 22:

o At 6:47 a.m., an alcohol violation was reported in the 21900 block of Leitersburg-Smithsburg Road.

o At 8:51 a.m., breaking and entering was reported at the concession stand at the Maugansville Little League in Maugansville.

o At 9:47 a.m., theft was reported in the 20000 block of Jefferson Boulevard. Someone took Maryland tag number 07019M6 from a vehicle.

o At 4:50 p.m., trespassing was reported at Redland Brick Property, 15718 Clear Spring Road.

o At 8:44 p.m., theft was reported in the unit block of South Vermont Street in Williamsport. Someone took a cell phone.

Guilford Township burglary investigated

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police were investigating a burglary in the 1100 block of Newcomer Road in Guilford Township, Pa., investigators said.

Someone broke into a home Tuesday, March 17, and took about $1,255 worth of electronic equipment, including a television, laptop computer and digital camera, troopers said in a news release. The burglar also took cash.

The Hagerstown Police Department reported the following juvenile arrests:

March 6

o Female offender, disorderly conduct, disturbing school and damage to property at 11:10 a.m. at North Hagerstown High School, 1200 Pennsylvania Ave.

March 8

o Male offender, damage to property (gazebo posts),108 E. Franklin St.

March 9

o Male offender, disturbing school at Western Heights, 1300 Marshall St., at 1:09 p.m.

o Female offender for disturbing school at Western Heights at 10:50 a.m.

March 13

o Female offender, second-degree sexual assault, 400 block of West Franklin Street, 7:45 a.m.

o Male offender, second-degree assault, Antietam Academy, 1300 Marshall St.

March 16

o Male offender, threat, Washington County Technical High School, 50 W. Oak Ridge Drive.

o Two female offenders, a charge each of second-degree assault, South Hagerstown High School, 1101 S. Potomac St. One incident occurred at 8:40 a.m. and the second occurred at 11 a.m.

Cat shot with .22 in Franklin County

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A black-and-white cat was shot March 14 with a .22-caliber gun, Pennsylvania State Police in Chambersburg said.

Police said in a news release that the shooting happened in the area of Kathryn Drive in Montgomery Township.

Police asked anyone with information about the shooting to call them at 717-264-5161.

Lollipops are reported stolen from Pa. church

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Someone broke into Hollowell Brethren in Christ Church and stole several lollipops, police said.

The break-in happened between midnight and 10 a.m. Friday, Pennsylvania State Police in Chambersburg said in a news release.

The church is on Hollowell Church Road.

Burglar steals items from Pa. fabric store

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A burglar broke into Shady Grove Fabrics in Antrim Township on Thursday or Friday, police said.

The burglar pried open a door and stole various items, worth a total of about $300, Pennsylvania State Police in Chambersburg said in a news release.
