Troop 05, Hagerstown, honored Conner B. Spessard with the highest award in Scouting - the Eagle Scout - March 1 at Next Dimensions.

The members of Troop 05 conducted the opening ceremony and committee member Richard Gilbert served as the master of ceremonies.

Committee member Trish Holsinger read the "Legend of Eagle Mountain" and Eagle Scout Bobby Bechtel gave the history of Conner's accomplishments. Assistant Scoutmaster Robby Holsinger administered the Eagle Charge.

Eagle Scout Chris Baker gave the invocation.

Past Scoutmaster Bob Holsinger presented the Eagle badge and Conner in turn presented his mother with a miniature Eagle pin and his father with an Eagle lapel pin.

Conner is the son of Carl and Dawn Spessard of Hagerstown. Conner presented a mentor pin to his father.

State Del. John Donoghue presented the Governor Citation, state resolution from Sen. Don Munson and a House resolution.

Mike Barnhart from Hagerstown Elks Lodge 378 presented the Americanism Award, along with a U.S. flag. The Elks Lodge provides the Eagle kit for every Eagle Scout in Washington County. U.S. Rep. Roscoe Bartlett presented a congressional recognition, along with a U.S. flag, which flew over the Capitol building.

Following the Eagle presentation, Scoutmaster Chris Crespo presented Conner with a Bronze Eagle Palm for extra merit badges earned above what is required for the Eagle rank.

Conner started in Scouting as a Tiger Cub. He earned all of the ranks, including the Arrow of Light, the highest Cub Scout Award. In 2003, he crossed the bridge into Boy Scouts with Troop 05. Conner has held the following leadership positions: patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader and senior patrol leader. He has earned 44 merit badges. Conner has attended summer camp at Sinoquipe Scout Reservation for five years, attended Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico and has attended many troop activities. He is also a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow with Guneukitschik Lodge 317.

Conner's Eagle project was to construct a helmet box at the Hagerstown Colt League baseball field. This will provide a place to store helmets when not in use and will be a safer area for the players.

Conner is a member of the junior class at North Hagerstown High School, and is a member of the baseball and golf teams. He is a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church.

Troop 05 is sponsored by The Presbyterian Church of Hagerstown.
