HCC to offer workshops for fiction writers

This April, Hagerstown Community College's Center for Continuing Education will offer a host of writing workshops for students interested in developing their craft as fiction writers.

Taught by writer, editor and creative consultant Julie Mooney, the two-hour workshop sessions will cover basic character development, dialogue and plot structure through class exercises, as well as group discussion and critique.

Individual workshop sessions include, "Creating Characters I: Build Characters From Personal Experience," April 2; "Creating Characters II: Borrow From Psychology to Develop Fictional Characters," April 16; and "Creating Characters III: Interview Your Character for Back Story," April 30.

All workshop sessions are offered from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Career Programs Building, room 230. Cost is $25 per workshop.

Interested students can also enroll in "Fiction Writing Workshop," which will be offered Thursdays, from May 7 to June 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. at HCC's Valley Mall Center. Cost is $100.
