Area Roundup -- HCC softball swept by Catonsville

March 21, 2009

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

Hagerstown Community College was unable to cross home plate at all Saturday afternoon, getting swept 6-0 and 2-0 in its Maryland JuCo Conference softball doubleheader against CCBC-Catonsville.

"We played a great team in Catonsville," Hagerstown coach Amy Sterner said. "We knew they would be tough going in. I think we hit the ball fairly well, but the hits just didn't fall for us today. We will be seeing Catonsville later on in the year and we will be ready for them."

All three of HCC's losses this season have come against Catonsville (10-5, 2-0). The Cardinals beat HCC 7-2 last weekend in a tournament at the College of Southern Maryland.

Catonsville's Shannon Strube hurled a two-hit shutout in the first game. HCC's Amanda Waltman allowed only three earned runs and two walks.

Desirae Sullivan, the cleanup hitter for Catonsville, had clutch hits in both wins. Sullivan belted a two-run homer in the first inning of the first game, then ripped an RBI double in the first inning of the second game.
