In the second game, Catonsville's Michelle Ashbury tossed a five-hit shutout. HCC's Christina Mehaffie gave up only one earned run, one walk and three hits.
Jess Patey had a hit in each game for HCC (4-3, 0-2).
Desirae Sullivan, the cleanup hitter for Catonsville, had clutch hits in both wins. Sullivan belted a two-run homer in the first inning of the first game, then ripped an RBI double in the first inning of the second game.

COLLEGE BASEBALL
HCC splits with Cecil
NORTH EAST, Md. -- Hagerstown Community College scored four runs in the sixth inning of the second game of a doubleheader to secure a 10-8 victory over Cecil Community College.
John Byram (2-0) came on in relief and hurled three shutout innings as the Hawks rallied. Matt Greene had two hits and three RBIs and John Barrett added two hits.
HCC (17-5) jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the opener, but Cecil hit the Hawks with an eight-run second inning on the way to a 13-7 win.
Daniel Heatwole hit his first home run of the year in the first inning with a runner aboard. Barrett had two hits and Travis Sluger had a pair of hits for the Hawks.

Shepherd drops two
MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. -- Shepherd University gave up plenty of runs in a doubleheader loss to Mount Olive, 18-4 and 17-5.
Brett Caplan had a two-run homer for the Rams in the first game and former Jefferson star Brian Collins had a pair of hits. Former Williamsport star Tyler Beard had a pair of hits for the Rams in the second game.

Dragon Invitational
COLUMBIA, Md. -- Hagerstown Community College's Liz Ross qualified for the NJCAA national meet by finishing first in the women's shot put (12.91 meters) at the Dragon Invitational at Howard Community College.
Also for HCC, Jebre Parker was second in the men's shot put (13.62), Wade Miller was fifth in the men's 1,500 meters (4:19.11) and sixth in the men's 800 (2:05.53), Kyle Shreves was fifth in the 400 (53.42) and Ryan Shifler was 10th in the 1,500 (4:31).
