Maryland State Police conduct sobriety checkpoint

Maryland State Police on Tuesday conducted a sobriety checkpoint in Washington County for St. Patrick's Day.

State troopers and deputies from the Washington County Sheriff's Department conducted saturation patrols in the area of the checkpoint.

During the operation, 964 vehicles passed through the checkpoint. Police said two people were charged with driving under the influence, four were charged with drug possession, three with driving on a suspended license and one person was arrested on an open warrant.

Intruder takes cash, items, van

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police were investigating a burglary and theft of a van at a home in the 6000 block of Fairway Drive West, according to a state police press release.

Someone broke into the residence and took a safe containing money, personal documents, golf collector wrist watches, pocket watches and jewelry, police said. The intruder also stole a jewelry box containing money, police said.


The burglary happened sometime between March 4 and Monday, police said.

The resident's vehicle, a 1996 Chrysler van, also was stolen, police said. It later was found on New Franklin Road.

Money stolen in break-in

GREENCASTLE, Pa. -- Someone broke into a residence Tuesday in the 5100 block of Buchanan Trail West, according to a Pennsylvania State Police press release.

The burglar stole about $300 that was in a clear pretzel container, police said.

The burglary happened Tuesday between 4 and 5:30 p.m., police said.
