FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Dorothy R. Hykes, 84, a resident of The Village Of Laurel Run, and formerly of Greencastle, Pa., died Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at the nursing home.

Born Sept. 20, 1924, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Walter N. and Elizabeth Martin Christophel and stepdaughter of the late Leah Martin Christophel.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Antrim Brethren In Christ Church near Chambersburg, Pa.

She attended the Waynesboro (Pa.) Senior Center and worked in the Green Thumb program. She was a caregiver to the elderly.

She is survived by six sons, David E. Hykes of McConnellsburg, Pa., Mark W. Hykes and J. Daniel Hykes, both of Waynesboro, Benjamin L. Hykes of Lurgan, Pa., Asa L. Hykes of Indiana, Pa., and Paul R. Hykes of Chambersburg; one sister, Lydia Flora of Chambersburg; one brother, Samuel Christophel of Chambersburg; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two infant sons, Roy and Joseph; one grandson; one infant great-grandson; and her former husband, Leslie A. Hykes.

Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle. Pastor Ky R. Searcy will officiate. Burial will be in Paradise Mennonite Church Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
