Area Roundup -- HCC sweeps Anne Arundel

Brittany Main went 3-for-3 with a two-run homer and Emily Myers added two hits as Hagerstown Community College defeated visiting Anne Arundel 5-1 in the first game of the Hawks' doubleheader sweep Wednesday.

Christina Mehaffie had two hits, including a triple, and drove in three runs to lead HCC to a 4-2 win in the second game. Megan Holmes added two hits and Amanda Waltman pitched a seven-hitter to pick up the win for HCC (4-1).

WILSON, N.C. -- Brett Caplan, Brian Collins and Chris Szafran each scored for Shepherd (10-7), which managed just six hits and saw its four-game winning streak end against Barton College (16-8).

Hawks earn academic honors

The Hagerstown Community College men's cross country team earned NJCAA Academic All-American honors. Their 3.527 GPA was the fifth best among Division I schools.

The HCC men's individual Academic All-Americans were Twigg Shifler (4.0 GPA), Wade Miller (3.80) and Dustin Adams (3.50). The other members of Hawks' Academic All-American team were Justin Cole, Corey Centofonti and Jeremiah Wilt.

Jordan Atha (4.0) and Liz Lietma (3.81) were Academic All-Americans for the HCC women.

Co-Rec League seeking team

The Washington County Co-Rec Softball League is seeking one more team for its upcoming season, which begins in May.

Games are played on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at the Pinesburg Softball Complex.

Junior League All-Star games

The Hagerstown Junior League All-Star games will be played Saturday at St. Maria Goretti High School.

The Junior Division 'B' game will be played at 1 p.m., followed by the Elementary Division game at 3 and the Junior Division 'A' game at 5:30.

The games will be broadcast three times on Antietam Cable Channel 19: March 28 at 2 p.m.; March 30 and April 1 at 7 p.m.
