BALTIMORE - Sister Maria Goretti Palmisano, 79, of Baltimore, died Friday, March 13, 2009, at Villa Assumpta, a retirement home for the School Sisters of Notre Dame.

Born Nov. 6, 1929, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of Agnes Wheeler Palmisano and Theodore Palmisano.

She graduated from St. Ambrose Catholic School in Baltimore and went to Notre Dame Juniorate High School in Fort Lee, N.J. She entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in August 1949. She received her bachelor of science degree in elementary education at Duquesne University in 1967 and her master's in education at Towson University in 1976. She took her first religious vows in 1952 and her final vows in 1958.

She was principal at St. Mary School, Hagerstown, from 1991 to 2001.

She is survived by one sister, Catherine Deems of Baltimore; one niece; and nephews.

Visitation will be today from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Villa Assumpta, Baltimore.


A Christian wake service will be today at 7:30 p.m. and a Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Villa Assumpta. Burial will be in Villa Maria Cemetery, Glen Arm, Md.
