Family Center holds holiday party

March 15, 2009

For the seventh year in a row, the children and parents at the Washington County Family Center enjoyed a holiday party and annual visit from Santa thanks to the extraordinary work of Deanna Kunkel.

Deanna has coordinated the effort that brings together the generosity of her former colleagues from the Developmental Disabilities Administration - Western Regional Office and the United Methodist Women of Emmanuel United Methodist Church to provide gifts for each child and gift cards for the celebrations.

Since Deanna's retirement, Connie Overcash has overseen the collection of toys, books and money from staff at DDA.

For the past two years, Louise Horst, Deanna's mother, has worked with the United Methodist Women who donated cash from their fundraising endeavors to buy toys, books and gift certificates from local supermarkets. Deanna and her helpers delivered more than 30 toys and books as well as gift cards totaling more than $125. The Family Center participants and staff are grateful for the generosity and kindness of each of the individuals who helped make the holidays special.
