WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Mr. Paul D. Taylor, 69, of 710 S. Church St., Waynesboro, Pa., died at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, March 12, 2009, at his home. He had been in failing health for nine months and critically ill for two weeks.

Born May 4, 1939, in East Berlin, Pa., he was the son of the late Harry C. and Mabel J. (Hawbaker) Taylor.

Mr. Taylor graduated with the 1957 class of Waynesboro High School.

He and his wife, Mary (Willison) Taylor, were married on June 24, 1960, in Waynesboro.

Mr. Taylor worked for Frick, Waynesboro, in his early years, then at Grove Worldwide, Shady Grove, Pa. as a crane operator for 34 years before retiring in 2001. In retirement, he worked part-time at Quincy Hardware Store, Quincy, Pa.

He was a member of Fairview Avenue Brethren in Christ Church, Waynesboro, where he served as a deacon, trustee, usher, cook and leader for Boys Brigade and member of the church board.

Mr. Taylor coached Little League in Waynesboro for a total of 20 years and the Waynesboro Stallions for 10 years.

In his younger years, he enjoyed playing softball, volleyball and played football for the Semi-Pro Waynesboro Tigers for five years. He also enjoyed golfing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Paul Taylor, Philadelphia, Pa. and Mark Taylor, Waynesboro; two granddaughters, Moriah Taylor, Philadelphia and Trista Taylor, Waynesboro; four brothers, Galen Taylor, Worleytown, Pa., Gerald Taylor, Chambersburg, Lowell Taylor, Waynesboro and Keith Taylor, Greencastle, Pa.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Marlin Taylor.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, March 16, 2009, at Fairview Avenue Brethren in Christ Church, 152 Fairview Ave., Waynesboro, with Pastor Carlos Rosado and Pastor J. Shannon Benshoff officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fairview Avenue Brethren in Christ Church, 152 Fairview Ave., Waynesboro, PA 17268; or Lutheran Home Hospice, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
