Police: Stabbing at inn was self-inflicted

March 13, 2009

HUYETT --An investigation revealed the stab wound suffered by a New Del-Mar Inn resident Sunday night was self-inflicted, Maryland State Police said in a news release.

The 24-year-old man was found with a stab wound to the chest at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday after a neighbor heard him calling for help from his cottage at New Del-Mar Inn and Lounge on National Pike, west of Hagerstown, police said.

The man told police a blond woman he didn't know knocked on his door and stabbed him, Sgt. J.A. Bowers said Monday.

Police determined the man made up that story, Trooper S. Bare said Thursday.

The man was taken to Washington County Hospital with non life-threatening injuries, police said. He has since been discharged, a hospital spokeswoman said Friday.

After consultation with the Washington County State's Attorney's office, no charges will be filed against the man, police said.
