Remembering J.R.

March 13, 2009

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- Pam Butcher and Natalie Butcher were presented with several items of appreciation and recognition Thursday night by Martinsburg Mayor George Karos and City Police Chief T.C. "Ted" Anderson.

Pam and Natalie are the mother and wife, respectively, of Martinsburg Patrolman J.R. Butcher, who died of cancer earlier this year at the age of 30.

"How do you thank so many people? The kids at the high school are still writing letters on how J.R. touched their lives," said Natalie Butcher.

Members of the police department signed a quilt, which was made by Sgt. Darrll Rupenthal's wife, Roxanne.

Butcher's family also was presented with a shadow box containing Butcher's badges and medals, sweat shirts and a ballcap for J.R. and Natalie's 4-year-old son, Tyler.
