Area Roundup -- Ritchey, Delawder sign with Rams

COLLEGE FOOTBALL



SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Shepherd University head coach Monte Cater announced Friday that seven more student-athletes have signed letters-of-intent to play football for the Rams in 2009. Among the group are defensive backs Adam Ritchey of Greencastle-Antrim and Keenan Delawder of Jefferson.

Ritchey, who had had nine career interceptions with the Blue Devils, also passed for 1,572 yards and ran for 1,248 yards over his career as the team's quarterback.

Delawder recorded 38 total tackles (15 solo) with three interceptions and a pair of fumble recoveries for the Cougars last fall.

Mother-daugher champs

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Maria Rubeling, 43, and her daughter Mackenzie Riford, 15, both of Hagerstown, combined to win the Mother-Daughter Divison at Disney's Princess Half Marathon.

Riford covered the 13.1-mile course in 1:45:23, Rubeling finished in 1:45:54 and their combined time of 3:31:17 topped the other 86 teams in their division.

Riford also finished third in the girls 14-17 age division.

City golf course will close for maintenance

Hagerstown Greens at Hamilton Run will be closed March 23 and 24 for aerification and top-dressing of golf greens.

If there are no unforeseen problems, the golf course will reopen at noon March 25.

If it rains, the procedure will be postponed until the following week.
