Katherine Lorraine "Kass" Spurrier, 80, of 1226 Grand Legacy Drive, Hagerstown, Md., died Thursday, March 12, 2009, at her home.

Kass was born Oct. 16, 1928, in Baltimore, the daughter of the late Vernon Alfred and Ethel Clara Gosnell Hunt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. "Ed" Spurrier on Jan. 19, 2006.

She was a graduate of Western High School, Baltimore, class of 1946, and was employed as a division secretary with the United Way Fund of Washington County until her retirement.

Kass was a beloved and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

Kass was a member of St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Williamsport.

She was a treasurer with the Western Maryland Chapter American Parkinson's Disease Association; a volunteer at St. Mary's School, Hagerstown; former Den Mother Cub Scout, Cumberland, Md.; and a member of Potomac Post 202 American Legion Auxiliary, Williamsport.

Kass is survived by a daughter, Lynne Kirby and her husband, Terry Sr. of Myersville, Md.; two sons, Steve Spurrier and his wife, Vicki, of Williamsport and Tim Spurrier and his wife, Anne, of Plano, Texas; two granddaughters, Laura Spurrier and Kandyce Dorsey and her husband, Matthew, both of Williamsport; two grandsons, Terry Kirby Jr. and his wife, Karen, of Hagerstown and Brian Kirby and his wife, Alana, of Stewartstown, Pa.; three great-granddaughters, Mackenzie Kirby and Hannah Kirby, both of Hagerstown and Savannah Kirby of Stewartstown; a great-grandson, Mason Kirby of Stewartstown; a sister-in-law, Audrey Hunt, Baltimore; and two nieces, Ellen Beck, Randolph, N.Y., and Janet Hunt and her husband, Dan, of Fairfax Station, Va.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Vernon E. Hunt.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, March 16, 2009, at 2 p.m. at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, 32 E. Potomac St., Williamsport; the Rev. Fr. Stephen Hook and Monsignor Alfred E. Smith will be celebrants. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.

The family will receive friends Sunday, March 15, 2009, from 2 until 4 p.m. and 6 until 8 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The funeral home will be open Sunday after 1 p.m. for the convenience of family and friends.
