Indians eliminated in state quarterfinals

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Chelsea Holcomb had 26 points and 10 rebounds, Marisa Lane scored 21 points and Lincoln breezed to an 87-60 win over Berkeley Springs in the girls Class AA quarterfinals Thursday.

Rachel McIntire added 18 points and 10 rebounds and Presley Parson had 12 for third-seeded Lincoln (22-2).

Amber Booher led No. 6 Berkeley Springs (19-6) with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Deidra Burch added 20 points, eight in the first quarter as Berkeley Springs raced to a 10-2 lead.

Lincoln owned the second quarter, outscoring Berkeley Springs 30-15 to take a 42-31 halftime lead. Holcomb scored 10 points in the quarter and McIntire had seven.

Lincoln's lead stayed in double digits in the second half.

Lincoln shot 57 percent (35-of-61) from the field and held Berkeley Springs to 28 percent (21-of-76).

Hawks finish Cocoa trip with split

COCOA, Fla. -- John Barrett hit a grand slam and Kyle Briggs threw a three-hit shutout as Hagerstown Commuity College blanked Jamestown 12-0 in the Hawks' first game Thursday, their last at the Cocoa Expo.

Daniel Heatwole had two hits and an RBI, and Matt Greene added two hits for the Hawks (9-5). Briggs walked one and struck out six.

HCC committed five errors that led to six unearned runs in a 9-3 loss to North Iowa later Thursday. Travis Sluger had two hits and two RBIs, and Greene added two hits.

The Hawks finished 7-3 in the Cocoa Expo.
