W.Va. man airlifted to hospital after crash

March 12, 2009

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- A Shepherdstown man was flown to Winchester Medical Center in Virginia after a single-vehicle accident early Thursday morning on W.Va. 230, Sgt. Robert Sell of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department said.

Bruce Shanton, 26, of Shepherdstown, was driving south on W.Va. 230 when his 1996 Honda Accord went off the road and struck a utility pole just before the intersection at Flowing Springs Road, Sell said. Shanton was ejected from the car before it came to rest in a field, Sell said.

Shanton's condition was unavailable at the hospital.

Sell said the cause of the accident is being investigated.
