Partnership aims to lure jobs from D.C.

March 12, 2009

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Four counties in West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle are planning a joint marketing effort aimed at luring jobs and investment from the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

The effort will be conducted by new public-private entity called the Western Potomac Economic Partnership. The partnership includes Hampshire, Morgan, Jefferson and Berkeley counties.

The Berkeley County Development Authority said Gov. Joe Manchin signed an executive order establishing the partnership.

Authority Executive Director Stephen Christian said Wednesday the goal is to implement a regional marketing strategy that will raise awareness of the Eastern Panhandle.
