CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- Harry C. Trayer Jr., 86, of 1425 Philadelphia Ave., and formerly of Conoco Road, Mercersburg, Pa., died Monday, March 9, 2009, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Sept. 24, 1922, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Harry C. Sr. and Nora Elliott Trayer.

He was a graduate of Greencastle (Pa.) High School and the University of Pennsylvaina Wharton School of Business.

He was employed as treasurer of Strick Trailer Manufacturer of Philadelphia.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.

He was a member of Upper West Conococheague Presbyterian Church in Mercersburg, where he served on the finance committee.

He also was a member of Mercersburg Lions Club, where he served as treasurer and was awarded a Melvin Jones Fellow. He and his wife delivered Meals on Wheels in the Mercersburg area.


He is survived by his wife, Mae B. Freeman Trayer; three daughters, Susan Feaser of Massillon, Ohio, Joy Kinney of Stockton, N.J., and Jill Trayer of Buckingham, Pa.; two sons, Harry C. Trayer III of Mercersburg and Scott Trayer of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one sister, Dorothy Paylor of Mercersburg; 12 grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Louise Hawbaker.

A memorial service will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Presbyterian Church of Mercersburg. The Rev. Anthony Lorenz will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.

There will be no viewing.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to the Presbyterian Church, 34 W. Seminary St., Mercersburg, PA 17236.
