Floyd Richard Cavender, 86, of Hagerstown, died Sunday, March 8, 2009, at Julia Manor Health Care Center, Hagerstown.

Born July 9, 1922, in Clearville, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles Elmer and Bertha Messersmith Cavender.

His wife, Mary Jane Cavender, died in 2002.

He retired from Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II.

He was a member of Salem Reformed Church in Hagerstown.

He is survived by one daughter, Connie Cavender of Smithsburg; one son, David Cavender of Hagerstown; three sisters, Ruth Moore, Faye Bowers and Mary Alice Bricker, all of Williamsport; two brothers, Wilfred Cavender of Williamsport and Donald Cavender of Sharpsburg; one granddaughter; and one great-grandson.


He was preceded in death by one sister, Louise Giffin; and two brothers, Paul and Charles Cavender.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown. Pastor Stephen Wagoner will officiate. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Friends will be received Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
