Student a finalist for Youth of the Year

March 10, 2009

North Hagerstown High School senior Kirksten Mitchell was in Annapolis Monday and Tuesday as a finalist for Maryland's Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year award.

She found out last month that she was selected as Youth of the Year by the Boys & Girls Club of Washington County.

Kirksten, 17, began attending the Boys & Girls Club's after-school care and summer camp programs when she was 7 years old. At 14, she began volunteering there and is now at the club about four days a week.

Kirksten's Youth of the Year award comes with a $1,000 scholarship from the club, which was donated by the Aarsand Family Foundation.
