Public hearing on school budget today

March 09, 2009

WASHINGTON COUNTY -- The public will get a chance Tuesday to comment on Washington County Public Schools' proposed fiscal year 2010 operating budget.

Last week, the Washington County Board of Education approved a final draft of a $232.7 million operating budget.

The spending plan is 3.1 percent higher than the current year's $225.6 million budget.

However, the school system's chief financial officer said the increase drops to 2.1 percent when a $1.4 million bus purchase is broken out separately.

A budget presentation is expected to start at 6:30 p.m.

A public hearing will follow at 7 p.m.

The presentation and hearing will be held at the school district auditorium at 820 Commonwealth Ave. in Hagerstown.
