March 09, 2009

The University System of Maryland at Hagerstown will hold a college fair Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the USMH center at 32 W. Washington St.

Advisers from USM-H's five partnering institutions will meet with prospective students. Participating universities include Frostburg State University, Salisbury University, Towson University, University of Maryland, College Park and University of Maryland University College.

USM-H is a regional higher-education center where students can complete a bachelor's degree or earn a master's degree. More than 20 programs are offered, including nursing, education, business, criminal justice and social work.

Students take all of their classes in the downtown Hagerstown facility. USM-H offers academic advising, computer labs, a full-service library and career counseling to meet students' needs.

"In times of economic struggle, it has been shown that expanding a person's education is a wise decision, especially in areas that fulfill work-force shortages," said David Warner, USM-H executive director. "USM-H offers people in our region an economically feasible way to attend classes and complete their degrees close to home, and many programs have evening schedules for working students."
