GREAT CACAPON, W.Va. - Raymond Ashby "Sneaky" Gloyd, 76, of Great Cacapon, died Saturday, March 7, 2009, at Winchester (Va.) Medical Center.

Born Sept. 22, 1932, in Great Cacapon, he was the son of the late Adam Kaylor and Alice Virginia Farris Gloyd.

He attended Road Ridge School, Great Cacapon.

He owned and operated Gloyd's Sawmill and Timber Operations in Great Cacapon.

He was a Protestant.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bernice Lee Virginia "Mouse" Farris Gloyd; two sons, L. Keith Gloyd of Warfordsburg, Pa., and Randy W. Gloyd of Great Cacapon; two sisters, Rosie Spielman of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and Beulah Mawyer of Warrenton, Va.; two half sisters; seven half brothers; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by one sister, Lena Cowgill; and two brothers, Charles Gloyd and Alonza Gloyd.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs. Pastor Steve Dawson will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Nebo Cemetery, Great Cacapon.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
