Southern Fulton 50, Coudersport 48

ST. MARY'S, Pa. -- Brooke Whiteside had 14 points,three steals and three assists, and Southern Fulton raced to a 36-20 halftime lead before holding on to edge Coudersport in the first round of the PIAA Class A state tournament.

Keena Elbin had 10 points and eight rebounds, and Lacey Beatty added nine points, six assists and three steals for the Indians (23-3). Chelsey Hollenshead had 17 rebounds and four steals.

Southern Fulton won despite taking just three foul shots and making only one. Coudersport (22-4) took 27 shots at the foul line but shot itself in the foot by missing 16 of them.

The Indians won a state tournament game for the first time since 1979. They have never been past the round of 16 -- a feat they hope to accomplish Wednesday when they face North Catholic at a site and time to be determined.

Kayla Bohn led Coudersport with 17 points.
