Very cool ice chest!

March 06, 2009

Were not sure exactly when or where you would use a motorized ice chest, but we like wacky, gearhead-type products such as the Crusin Cooler. This icebox is sturdy enough to ride on (it can handle up to 250 pounds perched on the lid), while at the same time transporting the equivalent of 24, 12-ounce beverage cans.

Each unit is equipped with your choice of a 300-, 500- and 750-watt electric motor, or a 33-c.c. two-stroke gas engine and a 39-c.c four-stroke gas engine. Also included are disc brakes and a set of retractable foot pegs (a cushion seat is optional). With a range of up to 30 miles, you'll certainly be able to arrive at the party well rested, instead of dragging your chilled food and drink by hand.

Total dry weight runs between 50 and 75 pounds, depending on the model, which is light enough to easily store in the back of most vehicles. The 300-watt cooler is priced at $400, while the 500-watt model, which is capable of better up-hill performance ant/or toting heavier loads, costs $100 more. The 750-watt model sells for $600. The gas-powered Crusin Cooler sells for $600-$700.
