BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. -- George W. "Duke" Schetrompf, 76, of Berkeley Springs, died Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born April 16, 1932, in Mount Savage, Md., he was the son of the late George B. and Margaret Lee Means Schetrompf.

He was a graduate of Mount Union High School in Pennsylvania and attended Juanita College.

He worked as a millwright at Mack Trucks in Hagerstown, retiring in 1991 after 20 years of service.

He served in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Berkeley Springs.

He was a member of Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post 60 of Berkeley Springs.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Apple Schetrompf, whom he married April 17, 1957; nieces; and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathy A. Schetrompf.


Services will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home in Berkeley Springs. Pastor Wayne Frum and Pastor Dan Wright will officiate.

Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
