MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- Wade Brown Ropp, 88, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, March 4, 2009.

Born April 28, 1920, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Harry B. Ropp and Jane Ridgeway Ropp.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Majorie Barnhill Ropp.

He graduated from Martinsburg High School, class of 1938, and continued his education at Potomac State College in Keyser, W.Va.

He worked for the U. S. Government Civil Service and his last job was personnel director for the Department of Commerce. He retired in 1970.

He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He was a fighter pilot and a flight instructor in Pensacola, Fla., and was called back into service during the Korean War. He was discharged from active duty after World War II, but continued active service in the Navy Reserves, and retired with the rank of full commander.


He is survived by a brother, Philip Ropp of Martinsburg; nieces; and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Jane Leith and Amelia Ashton, and three brothers, George, Charles R. and Ivan Ropp.

Services will be at 2 p.m., Sunday at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. Minister Warren Kenney will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
