Election results stand after recount

March 06, 2009|By HEATHER KEELS

WILLIAMSPORT -- Friday morning's recount of the ballots from Williamsport's Monday election verified the original outcome, with incumbent James G. McCleaf II elected mayor and his running mates winning the assistant mayor and council races, Town Clerk/Treasurer Donald Stottlemyer said.

The recount changed some candidates' tallies by one or two votes, but the difference was not enough to change the outcome.

Mayoral candidate Jeffrey A. Cline, who called for the recount, said he appreciated the election board's hard work and thanked his running mates, volunteers and supporters.

"On behalf of our whole entire Citizens First party, I want to say congratulations to the winners and best wishes to the new town council," Cline said.

Cline said he would continue working for the community through his involvement in the Williamsport Rotary and hopes to use his extra time to concentrate more on his real estate career.

McCleaf said he was looking forward to Monday's council meeting.

"We're just gonna get back to business," he said.
