CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- Robert L. McNew, 82, of Chambersburg, died Monday, March 2, 2009, at Chambersburg Hospital. 

Born Feb. 5, 1927, in Mont Alto, Pa., he was the son of the late David C. and Rhoda M. Peters McNew. 

He was employed at Letterkenny Army Depot as branch chief of packaging and preservation, retiring in 1985 with 39 years of federal service.

He served with the U.S. Army Infantry during World War II. 

He was a member of Brethren Fellowship in Chambersburg.

He was a member and past master of George Washington Lodge 143 F&AM in Chambersburg, Harrisburg Consistory, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Valley Forest 145, AARP 2287 and National Association of Retired Federal Employees 1063. 


He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Genevieve Faust McNew; two daughters, Cindy K. Myers of Chambersburg and Pam M. Foster of Carlisle, Pa.; two sisters, Pauline L. Wagner of Fayetteville, Pa., and Shirley L. Grove of Chambersburg; one brother, George H. McNew of Chambersburg; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Lucille John; and one brother, Delbert McNew.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, where members of George Washington Lodge 143 F&AM will conduct a Masonic service at 8 p.m. Friends will also be received from 12:30 p.m. until the funeral service begins at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. Manny Diaz will officiate. Burial will follow in Lincoln Cemetery.
