BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. -- Retha Ellen Rankin, 95, of Berkeley Springs, died Monday, March 2, 2009, at Rehabilitation and Nursing in Berkeley Springs.

Born May 31, 1913, in Morgan County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Walter G. Kerns and Laura A. Miller-Kerns.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest M. Rankin, in 2001.

She formerly worked for Interwoven Mills in Berkeley Springs and Morgan County Board of Education as a custodian.

She was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school.

She is survived by two sons, Ronald D. Rankin of Berkeley Springs and Richard D. Rankin of Winchester, Va.; and six grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Whitley and Betty Kerns; and one brother, Paul Kerns.

Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. Pastor Frankie Revell will officiate. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. at Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs.
