Mail Call

March 02, 2009

"I went to Fairview Outdoor School last week with my son and I just want to let the staff up there know what a wonderful job they do and let all the area parents know that when their kids' turns comes around to go there, if they volunteer to go along, that it will be worthwhile." - Hagerstown

"Hey, I agree with the guy or whoever called in the paper the other day about Richardson's, about the gentlemen's club. You know, hey, maybe we can open that up down there at the old Richardson's and maybe we can have that for the arts and entertainment district." - Hagerstown

"The next time you see the American or the POW flag in bad condition, there's no need to call Mail Call. Instead, phone Bernie at 301-739-6748 or Ernie at 301-842-2562. We are life members of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 14, and members volunteer in the maintenance of both veterans memorials along I-81." - Maugansville

"I was calling about late last Saturday night, I witnessed an accident on Franklin and Winter Street. A sheriff's department car went through a red light and hit a young boy, broadsided, and really damaged his car, but what I want to know is why didn't the sheriff's department car have a light or siren on? He just blew through that red light." - Hagerstown

"I just read where they're having a primary candidate forum for the Hagerstown city election on Feb. 27 in this morning's paper, and this is Feb. 27. Why don't you just wait until the forum's over, then advertise it? All we need to do is vote for people that aren't on the council. We don't need a forum to tell us who to vote for." - Hagerstown

"To Mr. or Mrs. Perfect in Sharpsburg: ... I cannot believe that a person can actually think they have no flaws. Well, think what you want. Keep yourself happy by thinking so. And rehang your mirror. Just sit down and think about your life. I guess it's perfect, too. I'd love everyone to see the image you see in your mirror. It would be a perfect world." - Hagerstown

"I am in agreement with Councilwoman Kelly S. Cromer casting the dissenting vote on hanging framed historic photos on the exterior wall of the Elizabeth Hager Center on North Potomac Street. Leave the wall blank. At a time when the economy is on a downturn, this seems like a frivolous expenditure." - Hagerstown

"One of the things that drives me crazy in Washington County is: The correct pronunciation for Weis Market is like a 'wise' man, like 'Wyse,' the German pronunciation, with a long 'i.' It is not pronounced 'Weese,' like 'yeese.'" - Boonsboro

"Throw away the Ambien. Blame everything on Republicans and you'll be able to sleep at night." - Halfway

"Hooray for Tim Rowland and his support of raw milk and small farms (Feb. 22). I could not have said it better. We, the little people, need help, rather than corporations. Also, it would be nice if the newspaper published weekly or daily, sites we can recycle batteries and Styrofoam products, as local as possible, because we, the little people, are going to save the earth, not the carbon credits and big corporations. Boy Scouts or school groups could adopt this type of recycling project if one is not existing." - Chambersburg, Pa.

"Ronald Reagan and Tip O'Neill straightened the Social Security out, to a good extent, when he was the president, but have any of you ever out there stopped to think that we're paying into Social Security every week in our paychecks, our Social Security that we probably are never gonna see, because the funds have long been gone? And I don't think it's fair that we should have to pay into it. There should be some other system. I don't mean to be pessimistic, but the way the government is, if they have to borrow a trillion dollars to pass around on borrowed money, it's just not gonna work." - Waynesboro, Pa.

"My neighbor and I have adjoining yards, with a chainlink fence to divide. His dog is out day and night, barking, and very aggressive with my dogs when I let them out. He's charged the fence, he tries to jump the fence, and has even had two physical altercations through the fence with my dog. If I harm this dog, I face a charge. No matter how many times I call the Humane Society, he's still there day and night, and they do nothing. If Animal Control will not control this situation, how is one to do this?" - Hagerstown

"This is in regard to city elections. I suggest voters ignore anyone currently in office, and elect an all-new slate. They can't do any worse than those in office now." - Smithsburg

"This is to the person in Sharpsburg that called in about the UFO sighting. Well, I seen one also, but I was afraid to call it in, because I didn't think anyone would believe me." - Clear Spring
