Shots fired during police chase

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police shot at a vehicle twice Sunday afternoon during a pursuit that lasted about an hour, involved two suspect vehicles and occurred on roads, dirt lanes and cornfields, according to a news release.

The suspect in the chase rammed four state police vehicles and tried to run over a state police officer who was on foot, the release said.

Bruce Wayne Hobbs, 50, 2642 Laburnum Ave., Roanoke, Va., was charged with driving under the influence, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and other charges, the release said.

The pursuit started at 4:20 p.m. when state police noticed the suspect on Interstate 81 at milepost 6, the release said.

The suspect was driving a red Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck which was reported stolen through the OnStar service, the release said.

State police tried to stop the truck but the driver proceeded north on I-81 and left the interstate at exit 10, the release said. The pursuit occurred on roads including Goetz Drive, Guilford Springs Road, Swamp Fox Road, Spring Road and Pa. 914, police said.

The suspect abandoned the truck and stole a white Ford Explorer in the Cider Press Road area, the release said.

The suspect later abandoned the Explorer and was taken into custody in the area of Brindle and Hartzell Drives in Fayetteville, the release said.
