Jared Mummert, a freshman at Clear Spring High School, joined a select group of students in the National Capital Region for a leadership conference sponsored by the Congressional Youth Leadership Council. The conference was held at the 4-H Center in Chevy Chase, Md., from Feb. 5 to 8.

The National Young Leaders State Conference honors and recognizes outstanding students for their scholastic achievement and leadership potential. Students must be nominated to attend by a teacher or selected based on high academic achievement. Jared was nominated by Christina Martin, a teacher at Clear Spring Middle School.

At the end of the four-day conference, Jared, who is the son of Mitch and Anna Mummert, was voted by his peers to be the spokesperson at the commencement service, said his mother.

He is active in student government, is freshman class vice president, is involved in band, soccer and track and is a Boy Scout in Troop 4.
