CUMBERLAND, Md. - The Allegany College of Maryland Foundation has announced the awarding of scholarships to two area students for study in the 2008-09 academic year.

Katie Golden of Hancock was awarded the Mary S. and Thomas M. Mitchell Memorial Scholarship. She is a respiratory therapy major. A 2005 graduate of Hancock Middle-Senior High School, she has worked as a waitress at the Lockhouse and in retail at American Eagle Outfitters. She is the daughter of Elzy and Diane Golden.

Abigail Simmons of Hagerstown was awarded the Joan Snyder Ralston Scholarship. She is a dental hygiene major. A North Hagerstown High School graduate, she then studied at Towson University. Her work experience includes Gold's Gym in Hagerstown. She is the daughter of Anita and John Drummond and Tex Simmons.




SEARCY, Ark. - Jaclyn Garrish of Hagerstown has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Harding University.

Garrish is a freshman majoring in communication sciences and disorders.




ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Shoval Resnick of Hagerstown has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Cedar Crest College.




BLACKSBURG, Va. - The following area students have been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Virginia Tech:

Laurita F. Turner of Cascade, a sophomore majoring in animal and poultry sciences in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Hannah M. Smith of Clear Spring, a junior majoring in dairy science in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Holly E. Kays of Fairplay, a junior majoring in natural resources conservation in the College of Natural Resources.

Bryan D. Schmitt of Hagerstown, a senior majoring in ocean engineering in the College of Engineering.

Benjamin S. Sigler of Hagerstown, a senior majoring in civil engineering in the College of Engineering.

David T. McGinley of Hagerstown, a sophomore majoring in materials science and engineering in the College of Engineering.

Michael D. Smith of Hagerstown, a sophomore majoring in business in the Pamplin College of Business.

Brian A. Williamson of Hagerstown, a senior majoring in political science in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences.




FROSTBURG, Md. - Rebecca Ardinger of Clear Spring has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Frostburg State University.




BEREA, Ohio - Kirsten Larson of Myersville, Md., has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Baldwin-Wallace College.




FROSTBURG, Md. - Adrienne Tracey of Smithsburg has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Frostburg State University.

In addition, Adrienne received 4.0 grade-point average.




PITTSBURGH - Erin Gantz has been named to the high honors dean's list for the fall semester at Carnegie Mellon University.

Erin is majoring in chemistry.

She is a 2006 graduate of Boonsboro High School.

She is the daughter of Paul and Tammy Gantz of Hagerstown.




HARRISONBURG, Va. - Chelsea Mae Connelly of Smithsburg has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at James Madison University.

Chelsea is the daughter of Doug and Jill Connelly of Smithsburg.

Chelsea graduated from Smithsburg High School in 2008.




FROSTURG, Md. - Caitlyn Skeweris of Hagerstown has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Frostburg State University.

Caitlyn is the daughter of Rick and Barbara Skeweris of Hagerstown.




CHESTER, Pa. - Brian Pastor of Chambersburg, Pa., and Michelle Raia of Shippensburg, Pa., have been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Widener University.




ANNVILLE, Pa. - Corey Greene of Shippensburg, Pa., a senior music business major at Lebanon Valley College, has been playing the role of Samuel in the college production of "The Pirates of Penzance."

Gilbert and Sullivan's popular comic opera was sold out two weekends in February.




BURLINGTON, Vt. - The following area students have been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at the University of Vermont:

Michael Barbour of Frederick, Md., a first-year student mechanical engineering major in the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences

Melissa Meyers of Frederick, a first-year student English major in the College of Arts and Sciences

Elizabeth Pruitt of Walkersville, Md., a senior History major in the College of Arts and Sciences




POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The following area students were named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Marist College:

Hayley A. Harnett of Boonsboro, a member of the class of 2011 who is majoring in communication studies.

Kerry E. Krolak of Myersville, Md., a member of the class of 2009 who is majoring in fashion merchandising.

Rebecca C. Siguenza of Frederick, Md., a member of the class of 2011 who is majoring in business administration/emphasis: marketing.




SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Jonathan R. Miller of Keedysville has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Shippensburg University.

Jonathan, a freshman majoring in accounting, is a 2008 graduate of Boonsboro High School. He is the son of John and Sally Miller.




NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Bret Marfut of Hagerstown has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Christopher Newport University.
