Capper caps year with title

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Berkeley Springs sophomore Damen Capper was the area's lone champion at the West Virginia State Wrestling Championships on Saturday.

Capper defeated Tyler Consolidated's Nate Taylor 2-0 in the Class AA-A championship finals to finish 49-2 for the season.

Derek Hovermale also made the finals for the Indians, falling 5-2 to Frankfort's Alec Peer.

Also for Berkeley Springs, Tory Bennett placed third at 160, Cohen Hovermale was fifth at 103 and Bradley Reed finished sixth at 130.

In Class AAA, Hedgesville's Billy Forquer and Washington's Dylan Nick both fell in the finals. Forquer lost 4-3 to East Fairmont's Eric Morris at 160, while Nick was beaten 6-4 by Huntington's Jacob Dempsey at 189.

Also, Musselman's Jared Weatherholtz placed third at 189 and Hedgesville's Mike Cardello was fourth at 152.
