Area Roundup -- Shepherd gains baseball split

Shepherd 7-3, So. New Hampshire 0-4

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Shepherd University's Patrick Smith and Kenny Reisinger combined to throw a one-hitter in game 1 as the Rams split with Southern New Hampshire on Saturday.

Smith struck out nine Penmen in 4 2/3 innings, giving up just a Scott Strong single in the fifth, while Reisinger followed with 2 1/3 innings of hitless ball. Tyler Beard went 4-for-4 with a solo homer and two RBIs, Nathan Minnich went 3-for-3 and scored a pair of runs and Patrick Aragon drove in two for Shepherd (5-3).

The Rams gave up two Penmen runs in the top of the seventh inning in the nightcap, while Minnich went 3-for-4 at the plate and both Beard and Anthony Jackson had two hits.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Pitt Johnstown 73, Shepherd 70

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- Tyrone Roach scored 21 points and Liki Turner added 15 points and 12 rebounds for Shepherd, which fell to Pitt Johnstown (20-7, 15-5) in WVIAC action.

Jonathan Motichka had 15 points and Justin Jarman chipped in with 12 points and nine boards for the Rams (12-15, 11-9).
