CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Cody C. Souders, 91, of Chambersburg, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, in Penn Hall Nursing Center.

Born July 10, 1917, in Blue Springs, Pa., he was a son of the late Clyde A. and Ruth Gushert Souders.

He was the founder, owner, and operator of the former Cody Souders Fuel Oil Delivery Co. He also worked for the former H.J. Tanner Co. and, after retirement, he worked at the Butcher Shoppe.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was a member of King Street United Brethren Church and he also attended New Testament Baptist Church.

He was a member of Burt J. Asper American Legion Post 46.

He is survived by his wife of more than 68 years, Pearl Wingert Souders; one daughter, Karen S. Porter of Chambersburg; one son, Ray A. Souders of Hanover; two sisters, Pauline Stouffer and Vema Ricker; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by two sisters, Charlotte Toms and Helen Wingert.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home,Chambersburg. The Revs. Marlin Fleck, Paul B. Baker and Lester Stine will officiate. Burial will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, where members of the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard will conduct military graveside honors.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Menno Haven Benevolent Fund, 2011 Scotland Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
