North High locked down

February 27, 2009

HAGERSTOWN -- North Hagerstown High School was placed on lockdown Friday while police apprehended a 14-year-old who was wanted by the Department of Juvenile Services, police and school officials said.

The lockdown began shortly before noon and was lifted at 1 p.m.

At about 12:30 p.m., Hagerstown Police escorted a young man from the school in handcuffs and took him away in a police car.

Washington County Public Schools spokesman Richard Wright said the wanted juvenile was not a student at North Hagerstown High School and was not authorized to be there.

Hagerstown Police Lt. Richard T. Reynolds said police were investigating why the youth was at the high school.

Reynolds said the department could not release details about charges against the youth because he is a juvenile.

No one was injured in the incident, Reynolds said.
