HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- The first round of the West Virginia Class AAA and Class AA-A state championships was held Thursday at Big Sandy Superstore Arena. The tournament continues today and Saturday.

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. -- Dewey McDonald paced Jefferson with 29 points and four assists as the Cougars defeated Washington to gain a win in the Potomac Valley Conference.

Garrett Grantham scored 16 points, Marquise Jones added 11 points and Nick Zbikowski had eight rebounds and four blocks in the win. Jefferson (13-8, 4-5) led at halftime, 36-14.

Markee Smith and Charles Yates had 13 points apiece for the Patriots (9-11, 1-8).

NEEDMORE, Pa. -- Skyler Gordon scored 34 points -- including an 11-for-16 effort from beyond the arc -- to pace Fulton County Christian, which shot 53 percent from the floor and only turned the ball over five times.

Seth Gordon had 18 points and seven assists, while T.J. Leedy chipped in with 17 points and three blocks for Fulton County (20-6).

ARNOLD, Md. -- Morgan McIntire led Heritage Academy with 25 points and four assists as the Eagles edged Holly Grove in the semifinals of the Division 1 Maryland Christian State Tournament.

Caroline Clark and Jessica Gaylor each added seven points and seven rebounds for Heritage (26-2), which will face Grace Brethren on Saturday in the championship game.
