New and used prom/party dresses

BOONSBORO --New and gently used party, prom and formal dresses of all colors and sizes for girls in grades six to 12 will be sold from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 64 S. Main St. Admission is $5 and includes light refreshments and a young women's self defense demonstration at 10 a.m. and noon. All proceeds benefit Trinity Lutheran Youth Ministry trip to "Jesus Justice Jazz" in New Orleans in July.

Habitat dinner and auction

Habitat for Humanity's 16th annual dinner and auction will be at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 21, at Hagerstown Community College's Athletic Recreation Community Center, Robinwood Drive, Hagerstown. This year's event has a western theme. The deadline for tickets is Friday, March 6. Tickets cost $45 per person or $450 for a table of 10.

Items to be auctioned include a fishing trip with a Potomac guide, a pet pot-bellied pig, seat cushions from past Super Bowls and more.

Citizens Police Academy

The Washington County Sheriff's Office will host a Citizens Police Academy from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on 11 consecutive Tuesdays beginning March 10. There will be two Saturdays of practical instruction. Classes will be at the Washington County Sheriff's Office Patrol Division.

Hands-on activities include exercises using the Fire Arms Training Simulator and training in citizen's emergency response techniques.

Marshmallows for the troops

VFW Post 1936, 70 E. Washington St. in Hagerstown is an official drop off for marshmallows for the troops overseas. The troops like to roast marshmallows at night. Drop off bags of marshmallows anytime. They are shipped out weekly. For information, call 301-733-4178.
