MIDDLETOWN, Md. -- Mr. Warren Roland Fries, 57, of Middletown, Md., died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at the Martinsburg, W.Va., Veterans Affairs Medical Center after a year-long battle with brain cancer.

Born March 9, 1951, in Bourne, Mass., he was the son of Marian Lewko Fries of Braddock Heights, Md., and formerly of Vestal, N.Y., and the late Roland Carl Fries.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his children, Silver, Vanessa and Dustin Fries and three grandchildren, all of Moore, Okla.; and his sister and brother-in-law, Rolaine and Gene Johnson of Braddock Heights.


A graduate of Vestal Central High School, Broome Community College and SUNY-Binghamton, Warren served with the U. S. Army as a medic and engineer CONUS and OCONUS attaining the rank of Major.  He was self-employed as an engineer and project manager in the Middle East and Africa before relocating his business stateside.

He was an avid golfer and outdoorsman with a quick wit and a flair for storytelling who enjoyed diverse intellectual pursuits. He was a loving son, father, brother and a loyal friend.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 1, 2009, at Ricketts Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Myersville, Md., with military honors. Pastor David Howell will officiate.

Following the memorial service, family and friends are invited to a time of celebration of Warren's life at 4 p.m. at the 19th Hole, Beaver Creek Country Club, 9535 Mapleville Road, Hagerstown, Md.
