WVU coach Huggins to speak at Boys & Girls Club dinner

Coach Bob Huggins of the West Virginia University Mountaineers' basketball team will be the featured speaker at the 19th annual Steak & Burger Dinner to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Washington County.

Huggins is fourth in total victories for Division I active coaches with more than 620 wins in 27 seasons as a head coach.

The Steak & Burger Dinner will be Thursday, May 21, at the Hagerstown Hotel and Convention Center (formerly the Sheraton Four Points) on Dual Highway in Hagerstown. Table sponsorships cost $500 with the sponsor receiving eight tickets, two of which are for Boys & Girls Club members.

The Boys & Girls Club members join the sponsor at their table providing an opportunity for the sponsor to get to know some of the children they are helping. Individual tickets cost $50.

In addition to the keynote address by Huggins, the evening will include the Youth of the Year awards, performances by Boys & Girls Club participants and a silent auction.

Huggins has led his teams to 23 post-season appearances while coaching at five different schools. His teams have finished in the top 10 seven times and he has been named Coach of the Year five times by various media outlets. Huggins was twice named an Academic All-American while a player at WVU in the 1970s.

The Boys & Girls Club operates six locations in Washington County and offers programs targeting social recreation, technology instruction, health skills, the arts and sports. Funds raised through the Steak & Burger Dinner will be used to continue the Boys & Girls Club's mission of youth development in Washington County.
